The UT Excise Department raided a liquor warehouse in the Industrial Area late last night and seized 2,411 cases of foreign liquor without bar codes or holograms.

Acting on a tip-off, the department’s team found the liquor stored illegally, allegedly for smuggling. The warehouse has been sealed and an investigation is underway.

As part of its campaign against liquor smuggling, the Excise Department has increased surveillance on liquor shops, bottling plants and warehouses, particularly at night. Officials said liquor was being transported from Chandigarh to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and other states.
