Chandigarh: The Met Dept has predicted rain in the tricity on December 12 and 13. “In view of a western disturbance, cloudy weather/ rainfall is likely on Thursday and Friday,” said a Met update. Heritage manhole cover stolen

Chandigarh: A heritage manhole cover installed near the Sector 22/23 light point has been stolen by some unknown person. According to the police, complainant Ishwar Dutt Sharma, Junior Engineer, MC, reported that the manhole cover, designed by French architect Le Corbusier, was stolen on November 29. MC staff searched for the cover, but to no avail. The police were informed following which a case of theft has been registered at the Sector 17 police station. There are around 2,000 such manhole covers in the city. TNS

One booked for illegal mining

Mohali: The police have booked a man for carrying out illegal mining at Teerha village near Mullanpur on Wednesday. The police said they received a call mentioning that a man was loading sand in a tipper from the riverbed at the village. A police team visited the spot immediately and found the suspect loading the sand in the tipper. The police impounded the tipper, bearing registration number PB65-AR-1892, laden with sand. However, the tipper driver managed to flee from the spot. The tipper owner has been identified as Thakur Singh. A case has been registered under Sections 4(1)(A) and 21(1) of the Mines and Minerals (Regulation of Development Act 1957). TNS

Barara resident held for assault

Ambala: The police have arrested Phool Chand of Barara near here for assaulting a local resident and leaving him injured, officials said here on Wednesday. According to the police, Rajbir of Barara reported that the suspect, along with his two other accomplices, assaulted him, left him injured and threatened him with dire consequences on October 2. The suspect will be produced before a court on Thursday, the officials said. TNS

Youth among 2 go missing

Ambala: A 16-year-old youth was among two persons who had reportedly gone missing from their respective homes in separate incidents, the police said here on Wednesday. According to information, Bablu Kumar of Mahesh Nagar near here had reported to the police that his 16-year-old son Suraj had left home on December 10 but did not return yet. In another incident, a woman of Baldev Nagar near here had reported to the police that her 42-year-old husband, Ravinder, had been missing from home since December 4. TNS

Satluj lads win U-14 Winter cup

Chandigarh: Satluj Public School (Sector 4) defeated Chaman Lal DAV School (Sector 11) by eight wickets to win the U-14 Satluj Winter Cup, here today. Batting first, the Sector 11 outfit was bowled out for 100/5 in 20 overs. Danish (28), Mana (27) and Rudra (24) were the three main scorers for the side. Kavish Chechi (3/11) claimed maximum wickets for the bowling side. In reply, Satluj lads scored 102/5 in 15.5 overs with the help of Vikramjeet Sandhu (31), Manan Sharma (21), Vividh Sherawat (15) and Bhavay Sharma (14). Gagan and Rudra claimed one wicket each for the bowling side. Kavish Chechi was named Man of the Match and best bowler of the tournament. Manan Sharma (best batsman), Bhavay Sharma (Man of the Series), Rudar (best wicketkeeper), Danish (best fielder) and Manan (best upcoming player) were the other winners. TNS

Chandigarh: A week-long sports fest ended at Manav Mangal High School (Sector 21). Many events, including 50m race, 100m race, long jump and others were conducted for the students. TNS

DLCE register easy victory

Chandigarh: Dr Luthra’s Cricket Eleven (DLCE) defeated Godrej Boyce by 69 runs to win the ‘Sensor that Cancer Cricket Trophy’ T20 final. Batting first, DLCE posted 186/3 in 20 overs with the help of Harshul Vats (77), Harvinder Nain (42), Dr Luthra (32) and Armaan Josan (25). Sudhir, Sukhvir Singh and Shashi Shekher Misra claimed one wicket each for the bowling side. In reply, Godrej Boyce were bowled out for 117 runs in 16.3 overs. Soni Kumar (36), Shubham (24) and Aditya Sharma (20) were the three main scorers for the side. Anand (3/16) was the main wicket taker for the bowling side, while Chaandi Ram, Harshul Vats, Armaan Josan claimed two wickets. TNS
