World Soil Day was celebrated in all three blocks of Mohali district today.

Teams from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, under the leadership of block-level agriculture officers, sensitised farmers to ‘keep soil alive, protect biodiversity’, the theme of World Soil Day.

Experts described the importance of soil, biodiversity, ill-effects of soil pollution, strategies to mitigate the menace and concept of soil health, role of soil biodiversity for sustainable soil health.

The experts apprised the farmers of using the optimum level of fertilisers and pesticides for the maintenance of soil health. Farmers requested the experts to provide a mobile soil testing van in the district. — TNS
