Firemen said no one was hurt as the family was not present at the house when the incident took place. Short-circuit was believed to be the cause behind the incident, they said

According to fire officials, the Mani Majra fire station received a call regarding the incident that took place on the first floor of a three-storey building around 12:32 pm. Though it is a residential building, the family is running a tailoring business from here.

Sewing machines, two beds and a ceiling fan were gutted in the incident. Two fire tenders and two fire safety motorcycles were pressed into service. The fire was controlled in 10 minutes, but it took one-hour to complete the whole operation due to smog engulfing from the area.

A major tragedy was averted as a few LPG cylinders were kept on the second floor of the building. They were brought out by the firemen before the fire could reach there. “The owner will be served a notice for running commercial activity from the house,” a fireman said. —TNS
