First-time voters said whichever party forms the government in Punjab should not offer freebies after coming to power. They voted on the basis of vision and ability of the candidate.

Kavisha (18), a resident of Kharar, said she exercised her franchise for the first time. She voted for the candidate after carefully checking its credentials, besides educational qualification. She said though her family members told her to vote for a particular party, she did not deem it fit to vote for him as several cases were registered against him.

Aparna Kanti (18), a BTech (Aerospace) student of the IIT-Mumbai, said she voted for the party which had promised to work for the overall development of the constituency. She had been sensitising electorate in her area to the distribution of intoxicants during the elections wherein thousands of families had been affected due to drug addiction.

Oshin Sharma, (18) a Class XII, said she exercised her franchise for the first time. She voted for the candidate whom promised to work for the betterment of the constituency. She said instead of offering freebies, political parties should concentrate on all-round development of the state, besides improving basic facilities for the people. She said her family had been supporting the candidate who was genuine and could do something for people.
