A local court awarded life imprisonment to four brothers for killing a labourer over Rs 300 in 2018.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on the convicts, Bhagwan Dass, Devanand, Deepak Kumar, Prem Chand, natives of Kushinagar (UP) and currently residents of Badhmajra.

The victim, Parsuram, was a labourer and lived at Badhmajra.

The complainant, Shyam Bahadur, a labourer and brother of the deceased, had stated that on August 26, 2018, he came out of his jhuggi and saw the accused and a juvenile assaulting his brother with an iron rod over a dispute on the wage of Rs 300. His brother sustained serious injuries on head and was taken to the Kharar hospital. Doctors referred him to the PGI where he died.

The court noted that the accused and the juvenile had formed an unlawful assembly and were armed with deadly weapons. In furtherance of common object of that unlawful assembly, they killed Parsuram.

The accused were chargesheeted for the offences punishable under Sections 148, 302 and 323, read with Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code, to which they pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

The counsel for the accused had contended

that all accused, being brothers, were falsely implicated in the case.
