The police and firefighters rushed to the spot after receiving a call at the control room, only to find charred bodies in the house. The bodies were sent to the Rajpura Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Kasturba Police Post in-charge Nishan Singh said legal proceedings would be initiated on the basis of statements given by the victims’ relatives. The house owner, Arvinder Singh, also attributed the fire to a short-circuit.

Relatives revealed that Jagdish had remarried after losing his first wife. His son from the first marriage, Latesh Chauhan, shared his father had been living separately with Radha Devi, who had left her previous husband to marry him.
