The Balramji Tandon Charitable Foundation distributed free rations to 26 widows during a special camp at Khuda Ali Sher near PEC here today.

The foundation pledged to provide them with rations every month. The event was chaired by Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta.

A book in memory of late Balramji Das Tandon was also released at the event. The book is a collection of letters written by various leaders to pay tributes to Balramji Das Tandon.

Gian Chand Gupta said distributing free ration to the poor and needy was commendable. Foundation spokesperson Ravinder Pathania said Gian Chand Gupta announced to donate Rs 5 lakh to the foundation.

Sanjay Tandon, Chandigarh BJP president, said with inspiration from his father Balramji Das Tandon, he and his family instituted the foundation to further the social welfare activities started by his father.

He said those who wanted to help the widows can contribute to the foundation.
