Former Mohali councillor Kuljit Singh Bedi has strongly criticised the Central Government for the continuous increase in prices of petrol and diesel, which has hit common person’s budget.

“While crude oil prices have been falling in the international market, private oil companies in India have been raising petrol and diesel prices by 50 to 60 paise per litre on a daily basis,” said Bedi.

“Diesel and petrol prices have increased by around Rs 5 to Rs 6, which has further hiked the cost of transportation and made daily essentials, including vegetables and grocery items, expensive,” Bedi added.

“The hiked prices have disturbed everyone from big transporters to taxi to auto drivers. With this, domestic gas is also becoming expensive,” said Bedi.

“The Modi government at the Centre, which chants the slogan of self-reliance (Atam Nirbhar Bharat) is unable to control rates of petroleum products. It is allegedly playing tricks in the name of this slogan as the rates of petroleum products are increasing every day,” Bedi added.

He demanded that the Union Government should immediately stop petroleum companies from increasing oil prices on daily basis.

The government, which was elected for the welfare of the people, should pay immediate attention to this issue, said Bedi.
