Acting on a tip-off from an informant, the Sector 5 and Sector 7 police teams of Panchkula have busted a major gambling racket following a late-night raid on November 22 at Hotel Park Royal in Sector 5. Eight individuals were caught red-handed while gambling, with police recovering significant cash and gambling material from the spot.
The arrested accused were identified as Manoj Kumar, a resident of Pinjore who was presently living in Sector 20, Panchkula; Dharamjit, a resident of Amravati, Panchkula; Anoop Singh, a resident of Pind Sahib, Patiala; Manish Kumar, a resident of Baltana, Punjab; Sukhmit Singh, a resident of Ludhiana; Karandeep Singh, alias Monty, a resident of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Ludhiana; Subhash Chandra, a resident of Suncity, Sector 20, Panchkula; and Kamal Gupta, a resident of Sector 19, Panchkula, currently based in Baltana, Punjab.
During questioning, it emerged that the illegal gambling session—specifically a flash card game — had been organised by Sukhmit Singh, who had invited all participants to the hotel. The police seized four decks of playing cards and a total of Rs 7,64,380 in cash, which was being used for gambling. All evidence recovered from the scene was taken into possession. A case was registered against the accused under the Haryana Gambling Prevention Act 3(1) 2025. Further investigation was underway.
Panchkula (DCP) Srishti Gupta said the police were committed to ensuring that the city remained safe and crime-free. She warned that those involved in gambling, betting, drug-related or any illegal activities should understand that the police were vigilant and evasion of the law was impossible. The DCP also appealed to the public to report any illegal activity, drug dens, gambling spots, suspicious persons or incidents immediately on helpline 112, so that timely action could be taken. — TNS.
