The cyber cell of the Mohali police busted a fake petrol pump dealership gang and arrested five of its members.
Superintendent of Police (Detective) Harmandeep Singh Hans and DSP Rupinder Kaur said the gang used to target people by offering them fake petrol pump dealership. The gang used to place online advertisements in MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, UP, Manipur, Assam and Karnataka and defraud people by making them deposit money in various bank accounts. The gang has so far defrauded people to the tune of Rs1 crore.
The police conducted raids in Gwalior (MP) and Hamirpur (UP) and arrested four persons. Another member of the gang was nabbed in Kharar.
The suspects have been identified as Mahinder Singh, Brahm Prakash Shukla, Jatinder Singh, Asif Khan, and Akash Singh. The police have recovered Rs4.90 lakh, a Scorpio, two laptops, mobile phones used in the crimes and SIM cards from them. Rs2.50 lakh in bank accounts have been freezed.
A case has been registered in this regard.
