A gangster was allegedly shot dead by four unidentified persons outside a shopping mall in Sector 67 here on Monday.

According to police, the killing of gangster Rajesh Dogra alias Mohan Chir, 45, a native of Jammu, is a fallout of a gang war.

Officials said the assailants were waiting for Dogra outside the mall for some time in two SUVs — one Chandigarh registration number and another of Jammu. 

Police said around eight to nine shots were fired. Eight FIRs were registered against the deceased, who had come out of the jail recently, they added.

Ropar Range IG Jaskaran Singh said as per prelimiary investigation, four persons belonging to Jammu were involved in the murder and one of them was detained. He said two vehicles, weapons and mobile phones were also recovered.

Following the incident, a forensic team reached the spot and an investigation was initiated by the police.
