Chandigarh, June 7
Residents of Tribune Society, Sector 50-D, are a harried lot due to the waste dumped in front of the society.
According to residents, the waste of all societies is dumped at the same spot every day. The plastic waste is taken away for selling by waste collectors, but other garbage remains piled up here, say residents.
“Those living in houses near the dump cannot even stand in their balconies. The garbage has always been piled up here for the past two years. We have approached several officials, but it has not been removed,” said one of the residents.
“When the wind blows, odour enters our houses and makes our lives miserable. It gives us a headache. When it rains, the situation gets worse. No one is paying any heed to it,” said Hari Singh, another resident.
The residents said they had asked the collectors to lift the waste, but they take away only a part of it. “We have to keep spraying room fresheners and keep our balcony doors tightly closed to avoid smell,” added residents.
