The Member Secretary, CPCC, said they were required to obtain registration from the committee under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. Failure to do so would invite legal action as per the provisions of law.

Violation of these rules contravene the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, which will be punishable with imprisonment for a term, which may extend to five years or with fine which may extend to Rs1 lakh or both. In case of failure or contravention continues, additional fine will be imposed which may extend to Rs5,000 for every day. — TNS
