A 13-year-old girl, Preet Kaur, was brutally murdered by none other than her mother and uncle at Shampur village after she reportedly saw them in compromising position on July 11.

Fearing that the teenager would let their illicit relationship, they first gave her a poisonous drink but when she did not die, they strangled her and cremated the body early in the morning on July 12.

Angrez Kaur, in her 40s, and the victim’s uncle Jagtar Singh have been booked for murder. Jagtar has been arrested while Angrez Kaur is absconding. The girl’s father is a paramilitary personnel and presently out of station.

Sohana SHO Jaspreet Singh Kahlon said, “The police held a probe on getting a tip-off. Earlier, the suspects tried to pass it off as a case of snakebite but when Jagtar was questioned, he confessed to having committed the crime.” — TNS
