Goldsmith robbed of cash, silver at gunpoint

Four bike-borne youths robbed at gunpoint a goldsmith of Rs 80,000 cash and silver ornaments in Bhabat village near Zirakpur around 3:15 pm today.

The victim, Sorav Kumar, who owns “Guddu di Hatti” in Shiva Enclave, Victoria City, Bhabat, said two masked youths stood outside on a bike while their accomplices entered his shop. They pointed a pistol at him and took away Rs 80, 000 cash along with silver ornaments. One of the robbers broke the CCTV camera in the shop. They also snatched the keys of an almirah but it did not open, the victim said. The entire incident has been caught on the CCTV camera of the shop. The victim said both youths were wearing turbans. Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek, along with other officers, visited the spot and began an investigation.

Local residents said months ago, a woman shopkeeper lost her ornaments in a similar robbery. She has not opened her garments shop since then.
