Got no notice, revise calculations: Kirron Kher disputes Rs 12L govt house dues

Former MP Kirron Kher has disputed the licence fee charged by the UT Assistant Controller (F&A) Rents in regard to her official residence.

In a communication to the Assistant Controller (F&A) Rents, the former BJP MP stated that she came to know that dues to the tune of Rs 12.76 lakh only through the media and no official communication or notice was made to her by the office so far.

Citing the rules of the House Allotment Committee (HAC), she stated that normal licence fee was applicable up to four months from the date of retirement, 50 times the normal licence fee was chargeable beyond four months and up to six months and 100 times the normal licence fee was chargeable beyond six months and up to seven months. She said it was observed that the department directly charged 100 times the normal licence fee beyond the initial four-month period, upto October 5, 2024, which appeared to be inconsistent with the applicable rules.

She requested a clarification and revision of calculation in accordance with the rules. She further said an amount of Rs 26,106 had been charged as 25% additional rent from November 8, 2014, to the date of vacation of the house.

Kher added that it had come to her notice that Rs 59,680 were charged as interest 12% per annum up to April 30 this year. “Since no notice or intimation regarding dues was ever served on me, I fail to understand how such interest can be levied without prior demand or intimation,” the MP said. She requested the office to re-examine the calculations and provide a detailed break-up with a justification for the charges levied.

The office of the Assistant Controller had demanded a payment of Rs 12.76 lakh as dues for a house allocated to the MP in Sector 7.
