Punjab Governor honours eco warriors

Joining him in the plantation drive, UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma planted a Nagkesar sapling. Both trees are known for their ecological and cultural significance.
“This event is deeply meaningful in the context of shaping the future of our country. The efforts made to beautify our Earth with greenery—especially by the gardener community—are truly commendable,” the Governor said.
The Governor also honoured 21 Eco Warriors — students, teachers, and gardeners (malis) from seven government schools in Chandigarh. They were recognised for their efforts in promoting biodiversity, waste management, and eco-friendly practices in their school communities.
A cleanliness drive was organised along Sukhna choe by the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, in collaboration with the Department of Forest and Wildlife, Chandigarh, and the Centre for Public Health, Panjab University.
