Taken aback, cops at the checkpoint ran for cover, but later realised that the miscreants tried to flee the spot. A police team chased them down near the Airport Chowk, impounded their vehicle and recovered the weapon from Mohit Grover, 24, a Sector 91-based businessman, and his two friends.

The police suspect that the youth sitting in the rear seat fired the gunshots in a drunken revelry. Taken aback, one of his friends, who was in the driving seat, sped away the vehicle. Both his friends are said to be sons of cops, but the police remained tight-lipped about their identity. Four empty shells have been recovered from the spot.

Phase 11 SHO Gagandeep Singh said, “A case under the Arms Act has been registered at the Phase 11 police station. The suspect will be produced in court on Monday. We are verifying whether the pistol is licensed or not.”
