Gym owner shot at in Mohali; rivalry suspected

Unidentified bike-borne assailants opened fire on a gym owner outside KV Musclemania Gym & Cardio in Sector 55, Mohali, early Thursday morning, officials said.

The victim, Vicky, a resident of Sector 52, was reportedly shot four times in the legs. He was rushed to a private hospital by a gym trainer.

Sources said the attackers had been waiting outside the gym around 5 am. As soon as Vicky stepped out of his car, they fired multiple shots at his legs in an apparent attempt to intimidate him.

Police reached the spot shortly after the incident and launched an investigation. A forensic team also collected evidence from the scene.

Vicky's family members suspect an old rivalry behind the attack, citing that he had recently received threatening calls warning of dire consequences.

Police have reviewed CCTV footage showing the assailants fleeing the spot moments before opening fire.

Sources added the assailants also fired shots at a hotel in Kajheri, owned by a friend of Vicky, on Thursday morning. Police are currently probing the sequence of events.
