Speaking on the occasion, Ghosh said the purpose of the polio immunisation drive was to spread awareness about the disease and protect children from it. He added that polio mainly affects children under the age of five, which is why consistent vaccination efforts are vital.

To mark World Polio Day, the Governor and his wife not only administered polio drops but also distributed toys and fruits among the children.

Emphasising the importance of tree plantation, the Governor said that planting trees is essential for the preservation of the environment. He further added that merely planting a sapling is not enough; it must also be nurtured until it grows into a tree that provides shade and contributes to a cleaner, healthier environment.

“Everyone should plant at least one sapling and ensure its proper care,” he further added.

Later, the Governor visited Shaheed Major Anuj Rajput Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 20, where a vaccination programme was being conducted. He distributed chocolates to the schoolchildren after their vaccination, viewed an exhibition set up by the students and interacted with them to learn more about their projects. He also toured the entire school premises.

He then met children with mentally disabilities, enquired about their well-being and distributed chocolates among them as well.

Earlier in the day, Ghosh paid floral tributes to the statue of Shaheed Major Anuj Rajput. The martyr’s father, Kulbansh Singh, was also present on the occasion.
