Haryana’s Health and AYUSH Minister Arti Singh Rao attended the closing ceremony of the Seva Pakhwada at Pyramid Hall, Sector 3, today. Organised by the Directorate of AYUSH, the fortnight-long initiative concluded as what she described as not merely a government programme but “a collective celebration of dedication and public welfare.”

Extending greetings on Gandhi Jayanti and Dasehra, Rao said Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of service, cleanliness and truth remain a source of inspiration today. She noted that, in line with the Prime Minister’s call, Seva Pakhwada evolved into a mass movement observed across the country like a festival.

Highlighting the achievements of the campaign, the Minister said that under the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” initiative, AYUSH organised 1,655 camps benefiting over 1.03 lakh people, while the Health Department conducted 22,765 camps across the state, providing healthcare to more than 20 lakh citizens. Activities included health check-ups, awareness drives for persons with disabilities, cleanliness campaigns, blood donation and plantation drives promoting environmental sustainability.”

The minister stressed that AYUSH systems – Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy – not only offer relief from illness but also ensure a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Digital portals and mobile apps, she added, are making these services more transparent and accessible. An exhibition of AYUSH medicines and a health awareness seminar were also held at the venue.

Before addressing the gathering, Rao participated in a cleanliness drive and planted a sapling, urging all citizens to nurture plants until they grow into trees, thereby ensuring a cleaner environment. She also visited stalls set up by 10 Ayurvedic drug manufacturers and appreciated their products.

AYUSH Director General Sanjeev Verma said the campaign focused on women’s health, emphasising that stronger women mean stronger families, societies and states. He added that the department is working towards expanding AYUSH healthcare centres, hospitals and educational institutions to ensure greater accessibility and holistic development of the sector.
