It will have a training centre for drivers and will also be used to give fitness certificates to commercial goods vehicles, school and public transport buses and taxis registered in the city.

Sensor-enabled machines will inspect and test the road worthiness of vehicles. The centre will test the vehicle on 24 parameters, including parts and fixtures such as brakes, steering, suspension, emissions, electrical systems and general condition as mentioned in the Motor Vehicles Act.

An official of the STA said a vehicle could be denied authorisation to ply on the road if it failed to clear the mandatory checks. — TNS
