Chandigarh, February 2

A cyclist was killed while another person riding pillion suffered serious injuries after their cycle was hit by a speeding BMW car near a petrol pump in Sector 10 here on Sunday.

Sources said the accident took place when Bakku Kumar (17), a native of Bihar, and Laltu Kumar (22), were heading to Sector 18. The car driver took the injured persons to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where doctors declared Bakku brought dead.

The car driver, who fled after dropping them at the hospital, has been identified as Uday (21), a resident of Sector 44. The suspect, who was arrested, was identified with the help of the registration number of the vehicle. He was later released on bail.

A case has been registered at the Sector 3 police station.
