Chandigarh, January 17

A 22-year-old man, who was hit by a train while picking firewood on the railway tracks, succumbed to injuries at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, today. The police had found the firewood Moti Ram had collected from the railway tracks where the accident took place.

Moti Ram, along with Aasha Devi, were hit by the Paschim Express at the railway bridge near Industrial Area, Phase 1. While Aasha Devi was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors, Moti Ram was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, with severe injuries.

The investigating officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar, Government Railway Police, Chandigarh Railway Station, said, “Moti Ram had a severe head injury and was not in the condition to talk. He died this morning. The post-mortem was done and the body handed over to his relatives. We have started an inquiry under Section 174 of the CrPC.”
