A Home Guards jawan deployed at Mata Mansi Devi temple was allegedly attacked with stones and sticks by eight-ten unidentified men on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The suspects also threatened to kill him while leaving the spot.

The incident took place around 1:30 am when the jawan, Surendra Pal (49), a resident of Raipur Rani, was sitting inside a security post at naka number 3 of the temple premises.

“After a stone was thrown at the post, the jawan went outside following which the suspects started pelting him with stones. They (suspects) also attacked him with sticks, leaving him brutally injured. As he shouted for help, the suspects fled the scene,” the FIR read, quoting jawan’s statement.

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 for treatment. Acase has been registered at the Mansa Devi Complex police station. — TNS
