Home Secretary reviews progress of Aadhaar updation in Chandigarh

Union Territory Adviser-cum-Home Secretary Nitin Yadav, while chairing the annual meeting of the UID Implementation Committee (UIDIC), directed all Registrars associated with the UIDAI to expand their facilities for Aadhaar enrollment/updation.

Yadav also asked the Registrars to give priority to the mandatory biometric update of the children who have attained the age of 5 and 15 and also to create awareness among residents to update their Aadhaar if they have not done so during the past 10 years.

The meeting was attended by Bhawna Garg, Deputy Director General, and Jagdish Kumar, Director from UIDAI, Regional Office of Chandigarh, and senior officers from the UT Administration, including Dr Vijay Namdeorao Zade, Finance Secretary; and Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner.

The committee has been constituted as per the guidelines of the UIDAI to oversee the progress of Aadhaar programme in UT. While reviewing the progress, the Chairperson directed the departments concerned to create awareness about the recent initiatives taken by the UIDAI to strengthen Aadhaar by updating latest proof of identity (POI) and proof of address (POA) documents. The feature is accessible online through “my Aadhaar” portal or at all Aadhaar enrolment centres. Residents have to pay only Rs 50 for updating the Aadhaar at enrolment centres. However, for online updation, the fee has been waived till March 14.

Bhawna Garg recommended that residents need to update their email ID in Aadhaar so that they get updates regarding the usage of Aadhaar. This not only prevents the misuse of Aadhaar but also creates a record of usage of Aadhaar. She also appealed to parents to get their children enrolled for Aadhaar if they had not enrolled yet. She further added that biometrics of children who had attained the age of 5 and 15 years respectively should be updated at the nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centres.

In addition, the Adviser directed the officers of the District Administration to prepare a detailed field verification report for Aadhaar Enrolment of 18 population so that no resident is deprived of Aadhaar enrolment without valid reasons.
