The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, J&K, and NIT Jalandhar have signed an MoU for collaboration on academic and research activities in the areas of mutual interest, including collaborative research works, joint supervision of PhD students, joint workshops and seminars.

The MoU was signed by IIT director Prof Rajeev Ahuja, NIT Srinagar director Prof Rakesh Sehgal, and NIT Jalandhar director RK Garg.

The MoU is a part of IIT Ropar’s initiative to welcome meritorious students from NITs to spend their final semester(s) at IIT Ropar, pursue some course, and also work on a project.

The students will go through a rigorous selection process, and subject to their continued excellence, they will be considered for an early admission to tahe PhD programme at IIT Ropar.

The MoU also provides an opportunity to the NIT Srinagar faculty to apply for postdoc positions or other opportunities available at IIT Ropar.

According to the MoU, research scholars from NIT Srinagar and NIT Jalandhar can visit state-of-the-art laboratories and other facilities at IIT Ropar.

The upcoming establishments at NIT Srinagar and NIT Jalandhar aim to promote startups, capacity-building, innovations and research in various domains related to water/industry discharge assessment, treatment and management, advancement of land resources and farm preparation, agriculture automation and precision farming and agribusiness marketplace. — TNS
