The Mohali police busted an illegal call centre with the arrest of six persons today in Industrial Area, Phase 8-B.

The centre being run by one Rohit Mehra was started 8 to 10 days ago. The accused had already defrauded foreign nationals of about $20,000 (approximately Rs 16 lakh).

The arrested accused include Rohit Mehra of Ludhiana, Anwar Rodrigues of Goa, currently living in Zirakpur, Somdev of Calcutta, currently living in Zirakpur; Buddha Bhushan Kamle of Zirakpur, Ethni Gomes of Kolkata, living in Zirakpur and Jitesh Kumar of Ludhiana.

Six laptops and three mobile phones have been recovered from them. “The accused used to trap foreign nationals through Google Ads or pop-ups. They used to tell them that there was a technical fault in their computer or laptop and cheat them,” said SP (PBI) Deepika Singh.
