An informal meeting of the newly elected/nominated Panjab University senators was held today under the chairmanship of Satya Pal Jain, former MP and fellow of the university. As many as 41 members of the Senate attended the meeting and 21 others conveyed their inability to attend the meeting because of prior engagements.

The meeting passed a resolution urging the Punjab Government to immediately implement the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission for the university and college teachers in the state. They said the issue had been delayed unnecessarily and the Punjab Government should implement the recommendations without any further delay.
