Chandigarh, December 10

Dr Neelesh Kumar, Senior Principal Scientist, Biomedical Instrumentation Unit of Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, has received an award for the ‘Best Applied Research or Technology Innovation aimed at Improving the Life of Persons with Disabilities.

The award was presented to him by the Vice-President, M Venkaiah Naidu, for the development of ‘virtual intelligent techniques for rehabilitation’. The virtual reality-based instrumented and biofeedback system helps in quantifying the rehabilitation of patients, which in turn helps caregivers and the doctors.

The Biomedical Instrumentation Unit is working for the development of prosthetic, orthotics, and assistive technology.

Other scientists of the CSIO have received this award in 2012, 2014 and 2018. The CSIO has developed several technologies for improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
