Chauhan had been living alone in a rented flat in Raipur Khurd. Concern grew when his family was unable to reach him for two days. Upon being alerted, the Chandigarh Police broke open his locked room on Sunday night and found his body lying on the bed. No suicide note was found. His body was sent to GMCH-32 for post-mortem, and later handed over to his family.
Police have registered it as an unnatural death and are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause.
This marks the third suicide by uniformed personnel in Chandigarh in 18 days. On May 30, Constable Kailash from the UT Police allegedly shot himself with his service revolver at his Dhanas flat. On June 5, Paramjeet Singh, a UT Police band staff member undergoing treatment for mental health issues, was found hanging in his Sector 26 residence.
