Jasminder shoots gold at traditional archery event

Mohali’s Jasminder Pal Singh set a new national record to finish atop the podium at the second edition Open Traditional Archery Championship held in Ladakh.

Pal participated in the Upto 50 lbs event and claimed the feat with a shot of 342.6 meters. The Championships, which were the first flight archery event in India, was organised in the serene and high-altitude region of Nubra in Sumur, Ladakh, by the Indovedic Traditional Archery Association in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and SOT Sumur, Ladakh.

In the above 50lbs, Ismail from Malaysia bagged the title with a distance of 336 meters and in the below 50 lbs (female), Nur Laila Ramli Binti from Malaysia, touched 215 meters to win the event.

The flight archery event witnessed participation from 83 archers across India (Ladakh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi) and international participants from Bhutan, Malaysia, and Germany.

Each archer was given five arrows and competed in a single-round format. The event featured Long and Short Distance Target Shooting Championships, with V Balakrishnan (168 points), Tondup Namgail (161 points) and Hj Ismail bin Hj Ab Kadir (160 points) winning medals, while in the female category, Aparna Kumar (108 points), Neeharika KS (35 pointso) and Nur Laila Ramli Binti (33 points) bagging medals.
