Jatin-Mayank, Ruma-Saily pairs clinch tennis trophies

The pair of Jatin Nain and Mayank Sharma lifted the men’s doubles title on the penultimate day of the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship.

The two outmusucled Vatsal Manikantan and Tanishq Mukesh Jadhav in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in the summit clash.

The pairing of Ruma Ashutosh Gaikaiwari and Saily Prashantkumar Thakkar, meanwhile, were crowned the women’s doubles champions in a much-tighter contest.

The two battled past the combine of Bhumika Dahiya and Ayushi Tanwar 6-3, 7-5 to lift the trophy.

The men’s singles semifinals saw Vatsal Manikantan of Tamil Nadu stun third seed Moksh Puri of with an identical scoreline of 6-4, 6-4. Punjab’s fourth seed Dalwinder Singh, meanwhile, dropped just one game en-route to a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Yash Yadav of Madhya Pradesh.

Jaya Kapoor also steamrolled into the women’s final. She was leading 6-2, 5-3 against Jasmine Rawat when the latter conceded the match. In the second semifinal, Vidula Amar posted a major upset by defeating second seed Rutuparna Choudhary 6-4, 6-0.
