Chandigarh, January 7

The Chandigarh Badminton Association will organise the Yonex Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament (U-19) from January 10 to 15, at the Sector 38 Sports Complex.

More than 1200 players along with their coaches /managers from different parts of India will take part in this five-day championship. The qualifying matches of this championship will be organised from January 10 to 11, followed by main draw matches from January 12. Top international players, including Junior Asian Games gold medallist, Aditi Bhatt, Shruti Mishra, Trisha Jolly, Rohan Gurbani, Ravi Gagan, Mayank, Jayant Rana, Aryan Hooda, Anupma Upadhyay, Rizul Saini, Pankaj Malik, Samarveer, will take part in this prestigious championship to be organised under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India.

Over 40 players from Chandigarh will also take part in this championship. The championship will be inaugurated by Member Parliament and Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur along Gian Chand Gupta, Speaker Haryana Vidhan Sabha, on January 12. The Badminton Federation of India will also select the top performers of this championship in the probable’s squads, meant for selecting Indian team for the forthcoming Dutch and German Open Tournaments.

The championship will be played under the aegis of Badminton Federation of India in support of Chandigarh Badminton Association and UT Sports Department.

“Over 30 technical qualified officials will supervise the championship and for the first time in the history of the city live scoring will be provided.

All the arrangements have been made and it’s a proud moment as we have now hosted national championships of all age categories here in Chandigarh,” said Surinder Mahajan, organising secretary.
