Chandigarh: Kalka Shatabdi departed from New Delhi with the delay of over an hour and reached Chandigarh at 12.43 pm, instead of the scheduled arrival of 10.59 am. Jan Shatabdi departed three hours late from Chandigarh against its usual time of 7.43 am and reached Delhi late by over four hours (3.54 pm). Youth held for vehicle thefts

Chandigarh: A 23-year-old youth has been arrested for vehicle thefts. The police have recovered two motorcycles from his possession. Suspect Mintu Kumar, a resident of Mauli Jagran, was arrested at a checkpoint in Sector 23 while riding a stolen motorcycle. A fake number plate was affixed on the bike. A case was registered against him at the Sector 17 police station. During investigation, another stolen motorcycle was recovered on his disclosure. TNS

Four POs land in police dragnet

Chandigarh: The Proclaimed Offender (PO) and Summon Staff of the UT police have arrested four POs. Varinder Singh of Dadu Majra, who was booked in an accident case and later declared a PO, has been arrested. Another PO, Sanjay, alias Bihari, who was booked for violating the District Magistrate’s order during Covid-19, has also been nabbed. Two other POs, identified as Vikramjeet Singh and Irshad Ali, have also been apprehended. They were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. TNS

Dr Chauhan new DSW at PU

Chandigarh: Dr Amit Chauhan, professor at University Institute of Engineering and Technology, has been appointed as the new Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Panjab University. Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig approved Chauhan’s appointment on Tuesday. He has to his credit more than 80 publications. He remained the warden of the boys’ hostel number 6 for five years (2018 to 2023). TNS

Event marks Cancer Day

Chandigarh: To mark World Cancer Day, the Western Command conducted cancer awareness and screening programmes at various military hospitals under it. The theme for this year was “Close the Care Gap”, emphasising that everyone, collectively and individually, should commit to improve access to quality medi-care. All military hospitals under the command conducted talks and interactive sessions on cancer and its prevention and organised screening camps. TNS

Clear sky likely for five days

Chandigarh: After the city witnessed few rainy days, it is expected to be clear sky for the next five days. According to the city weather department, the sky is likely to be mainly clear from February 7 to 11.
