The state-level Khadi and Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) joint exhibition officially opened at Shalimar Ground in Sector 5 today, showcasing a range of eco-friendly and indigenous products.

With over 100 stalls from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Nagpur and Pune, the exhibition will run until February 10.

The exhibition features 46 khadi and 54 PM Employment Generation Programme units, providing a platform for artisans and entrepreneurs to present their goods.

In Haryana alone, 139 Khadi institutions employ nearly 60,000 artisans, generating goods worth Rs 267.26 crore and sales worth Rs 442 crore in 2023-24.

The Khadi industry has seen significant growth in the past decade, with sales of Khadi village industries products surging from Rs 31,000 crore to Rs 1,55,000 crore, a five-fold increase.

Employment in this sector has also grown, from 1.3 crore to 1.87 crore people, with over 10 lakh new jobs created in the last 10 years.
