Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aashika Jain on Friday inaugurated a Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra at the Civil Hospital here.

The newly opened pharmacy store would provide generic medicines at 70 to 80 per cent cheap rates as compared to the market.

The store will be run by the District Red Cross Society. A qualified pharmacist has been hired and will remain present at the store from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Jan Aushadhi Kendra is the third in the district being operated by the District Red Cross Society. The other two are located at the District Hospital in Mohali and Civil Hospital in Kharar.

Besides, a mobile testing van has already been started by the District Red Cross Society.

The special van covers the medical camps being conducted by the District Red Cross Society with the help of the District Hospital medical team. Similarly, an ambulance service has also been launched at reasonable rates that can be hired by dialling 7087087005 and 8427544403.

Jain assured that a public audit of CHC Kurali was done last year and soon it will get an upgrade as the case has been submitted to the Punjab Government.

The DC also visited the wards and enquired about the wellbeing of the patients and offered blankets for the ward beds.
