To check traffic violations, especially red light jumping, during late night and early morning hours, the UT police have started laying nakas to catch offenders.

DSP Traffic (Administration) Palak Goyal said the focus would be on traffic offences, including red light jumping, dangerous driving, drunken driving, etc.

“To check drunken driving, we won’t use alcometer. The suspected driver will be asked to go under medical examination,” the DSP added.

The city had recently witnessed accidents during wee hours in which precious lives were lost. The police said such nakas would help in preventing road accidents, especially due to rash driving.
