Lawyers demand action against Amloh MLA’s brother over MC poll day ‘assault’
A delegation of lawyers led by District Bar Association president AS Dharniand office bearers of bar associations Khanna, Amloh and Samrala submitted a complaint to the SSP, demanding action against Amloh MLA Gurinder Singh Garry Birring’s brother Mani Birring and other associates for allegedly for assaulting a lawyer.
According to the complaint, the accused, his aides Suraj Kumar, Charan Singh, and others, during the Amloh municipal council election hurled casteist remarks against the lawyer, identified as Hasan Singh.
Notably, Hasan’s sister-in-law, Kamaljit Kaur, was the Congress candidate from Ward Number 9.
While talking to media persons, the delegation members said Hasan Singh had lodged a complaint on on December 22.
Accoring to the complaint, Hasan was at the polling booth during the December 21 voting when Mani Birring and his associates barged with the intention to capture it. When he objected, Mani and Suraj brandished a gun at him and hit him on the forehead. His supporters allegedly started beating him and hurled casteist slurs. Onlookers came to his rescue and rushed him to the civil hospital.
The lawyers’ delegation alleged that no action has been initiated despite the complaint before threatening to go on a strike.
The SSP has assured the delegation of a resolution and ordered an investigation.
Notably, four police personnel engaged in polling duty at Amloh town during municipal elections had after been suspended after a video went purportedly showing Amloh MLA Garry Birring’s personal secretary and supporters being pushed out of a polling booth by them made its way to social media.
They had since alleged that the suspensions followed a complaint by the MLA himself.
