The Department of Statistics organised a lecture to mark 25 years of victory in Kargil, at the seminar hall, Department of Statistics, Panjab University, here today.

Prof Narinder Kumar, chairperson, Department of Statistics, paid profound respect and gratitude to the brave solders who laid down their lives for the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.

The lecture focused on Kargil Vijay Diwas. The lecture further emphasised on the sacrifices of Capt Vikram Batra, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav and Brig Khushal Thakur, Commanding Officer of 18 Grenadier. Some memories of the war were part of the presentation shown on the occasion. A documentary was also played and at the end of the lecture a quiz competition was organised for the participants.

Two minutes of silence were observed to remember the supreme sacrifice made by the brave hearts of Kargil war.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
