Local judokas bagged a rich haul of medals in the Ashmita Khelo India Women’s League National Judo Tournament in Thrissur (Kerela). In the sub junior event, Kunjan (-48kg) and Milli Gunjiyal (-57kg) bagged a bronze medal each in their respective weight category, while in the cadet event, Angel Yadav won the gold medal in the -48kg event, while Divanshi Miglani won bronze medal in the 70kg event.

Angel won another gold medal in the same weight category of the junior event, while Mehak Singh (-52kg) bagged the pole position in her respective weight category. Saniya Rai (-63kg) won bronze medal. In the senior category, Mehak Singh won the gold medal in the -52kg category. Mehak and Angel created history by winning two gold medals each in a single tournament.

Mehak defeated all her opponents by knock out, while Angel also logged one-sided wins in all her bouts. In the juniors’ category, Chandigarh team won overall championship and Punjab finished second. All judokas are training under coach Vivek Thakur at the Sector 34 Sports Complex.
