Mahavir Kaushik, at present serving as the Deputy Commissioner, Fatehabad, has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula. Kaushik is a 2011-batch IAS officer.

The post of Deputy Commissioner was lying vacant after the appointment of Vinay Pratap Singh as the Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner.

Singh took over as the new Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner on November 18 after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for his inter-cadre deputation from the Haryana cadre to the AGMUT cadre (Chandigarh segment) for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. — TNS

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
