Mahesh Asawale from Savitribai Phule University, Pune, lifted a total of 258kg (snatch 117kg clean & jerk 141kg) to bag the gold medal in the 67kg competition on the third day of the All India Inter-University Weightlifting Championship at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, today.

Hosts’ Simranjeet Singh won the silver with a total of 253kg (snatch 115kg clean & jerk 138kg), while Hanuman Sagar from Gulbarga University, Karnataka, lifted 244kg (snatch 111kg clean & jerk 133kg) to claim the bronze.

In the All India Inter-University Best Physique Championship, P Prabhu from Thiruvalluvar University, Tamil Nadu, topped the podium in the 75kg category.

D Mathan Krishnan from Dr MGR University, Chennai, bagged the second position, while Viraj from Mangalore University occupied the third place.

In the 80kg contest, B Raghavendar from Madras University claimed the gold medal, while L Dinesh of Anna University, Tamil Nadu, bagged the silver.

Mohammed Ali of Osmania University, Hyderabad, had to be content with the bronze medal.

V Vasudev from Anna University excelled in the 85kg competition. He was followed by Ghanshyam W Mane from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Maharashtra, in second place, while P Rajesh Kumar from Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam, bagged the third position.
