Mohali: Congress leader and former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu strongly criticised the new land pooling policy brought by the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab government, terming it anti-farmer, pro-big builders and a betrayal of the landowners.
During a press conference in Mohali, he said that if this policy is implemented, land mafia and big builders will benefit from it, while small farmers holding 1 to 3 kanals of land will face financial ruin.
He said under the old policy, in exchange for 1 kanal of land, the landowner was given a 200 square yard residential plot or 125 square yard residential and 25 square yard commercial plot, whereas under the new policy, the landowner will be given only a 150 square yard residential plot.
