Man gets 10-yr RI for carrying banned injections

A local court today awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a 28-year-old resident of Mauli Jagran for carrying banned injections.
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ajit Atri held accused Sunny guilty under Section 22 (c) of the NDPS Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.
According to the prosecution, a police team on patrolling duty near Gurdwara Chowk in Sector 32, Chandigarh, saw a youth coming from the side of the Government Medical College and Hospital and he was holding a polythene bag. On seeing the police team, he changed the direction.
On getting suspicion of his activity, the police team stopped him and checked the polythene bag. On checking, the police found 17 injections of pheniramine maleate and 17 injections of Buprenorphine.
As he could not produce any licence nor permit to carry these banned injections, a case under Section 22 of the NDPS Act was registered at the Sector 34 police station on October 7, 2017. He was later arrested.
In another case, the court awarded seven-month imprisonment to Sonu Goyal (35), a resident of Baltana in Zirakpur, in an NDPS case. He was arrested for carrying 7-gm heroin in August 2019. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.
