Ambala: The district police have arrested Niammuddin for abducting a minor girl after luring her for marriage, the police said here Monday. According to the police, a woman had reported to the local police that the suspect had abducted her minor daughter after luring her for marriage in Baldev Nagar, near here, on the intervening night of January 28 and 29 last year. The suspect would be produced before a local court tomorrow, the police added. TNS
Married woman goes missing
Ambala: A 35-year-old married has reportedly gone missing from her home, the police said here on Monday. According to the police, Dharamveer of Mahesh Nagar had reported that his wife had left home on February 21, but did not return. A missing person’s report was lodged, the police added. A manhunt was also launched to trace the woman, the police said. TNS
Tractor hits auto, one hurt
Ambala: A resident of Barara, near here, identified as Amar Pal, sustained serious injuries when a recklessly driven tractor-trailer hit an auto-rickshaw in which he was travelling. The victim was admitted to a local hospital for treatment. A case was registered against tractor-trailer driver and further investigation was launched, the police added. TNS
85 challaned for traffic offfences
Ambala: “The district police have challaned 85 vehicle drivers for various traffic violations under its ongoing drive in the district during the past 24 hours,” officials said on Monday. According to the police, as many as 41 violators were issued e-challans, 10 vehicle drivers were challaned for speeding, 17 were challaned for various other offences and vehicles of two habitual offenders were impounded. Four proclaimed offenders held
Ambala: The police have arrested four proclaimed offenders (POs) under its ongoing drive against wanted notorious criminals in the district during the past 24 hours, officials said here today. According to the police, the accused were evading arrest ever since they were booked in different parts of the district following which they were declared POs by competent courts. The arrested proclaimed offenders included, Vicky of Kurukshetra wanted in Ambala City, Rupesh of Baldev Nagar wanted in Ambala, Rajesh Kumar of Ambala City wanted in Baldev Nagar and Vikas, alias Kala, of Ambala wanted in a criminal case registered against him at the Mahesh Nagar police station. The arrested fugitives would be produced before local courts tomorrow, officials added. TNS
Woman dies as TV, fridge catch fire
Chandigarh: A 30-year-old woman reportedly died due to suffocation after a TV and a refrigerator caught fire at her house in Khuda Jassu. The victim has been identified as Anita, wife of Bharat. She was alone in her house on Sunday night. Sources said the victim got suffocated in sleep due to smoke. The incident came to light in the morning after which the police were informed and the victim taken to the GMSH-16, where doctors declared her brought dead. The police are looking into the matter. 46 FC make it National finals
Chandigarh: 46 FC defeated 43 FC to make it to the national finals of the Red Bull Neymar Jr.’s Five — a five-on-five football tournament. The city qualifiers, held at the Legacy Matters, Sector 27, witnessed 117 teams compete for a spot in the finals. Earlier, in the semifinals, 43 FC overcame CU International, while 46 FC got the better of BB FC. The national finals will be held in April. TNS

Chandigarh: Achievers Compitech beat AU Bank by four wickets in a first of its kind box cricket tournament held at the Tiki Taka Football Ground — North India’s first rooftop football ground situated at Paras Down Town Square mall in Zirakpur. Batting first, AU Bank scored 47 runs in six overs. In reply, Achievers Compitech reached home in just 4.2 overs. Aman Negi made a quick-fire 15. A total of 10 teams participated in the tournament.
