The police have arrested Mataur resident Kuldeep Singh Goldy, 30, for allegedly strangling his sister-in-law to death following a family dispute on June 28, before making a failed suicide attempt. The victim, Reena, 36, a mother of one, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital today. Her post-mortem is scheduled for Monday.

Both the victim and the accused are relatives within an extended family. The accused had reportedly consumed a poisonous substance following the incident but survived.

The police had initially registered a case of attempted murder based on the statement of Reena’s husband’s cousin, Maninder Singh. Neighbours had rushed both the victim and the accused to a private hospital. While the man was declared out of danger, the woman was admitted to the ICU
