Chandigarh: A 32-year-old Punjab resident has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for possessing a weapon. The police said they stopped a Fortuner at a checkpoint near night clubs in Sector 7 and recovered a .32 bore revolver and six live cartridges from the SUV. The police said the accused, Naushan Anwar, a resident of Malerkotla, failed to produce licence for the firearm. A case under the Arms Act has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS

23 agenda items for F&CC meet

Chandigarh: As many as 23 agenda items will be taken up for approval at the Finance and Contract Committee meeting on Tuesday. These included providing road gullies and storm lines at various locations in ward No. 2, enhancing water capacity in Daria, and providing lights and gyms at different places. A proposal to provide billiards and table tennis facility and multiply courtyard for skating, volleyball and badminton at Sector 15 community centre is also on the agenda. TNS

Prisha wins chess meet

Mohali: Prisha and Saanvi Aggarwal claimed top two positions, respectively, in the girls’ U-15 category, on the concluding day of the 27th Chess Tournament. The tournament was organised by the Chandigarh Parents Shatranj Association. In the boys’ U-15 category, Prabhasees Singh claimed the first position, while Vivaan Mittal finished second and Tarush Jindal claimed third position. In the girls’ open category, Kamya Kumari and Soni Mishra claimed top two positions, respectively, while in the men’s category, Ram Prakash, Pratyaksh Goyal and Nikhil Chehal clinched the top three spots, respectively.
