Married four days ago, a 21-year-old on Wednesday night stabbed to death by her husband at their rented accommodation in Kudanwala Dera Bassi village.

The victim, Sonia, had married Ram Lakhan of Sitapur, UP, four days ago and were staying in Dera Bassi. On Wednesday, the couple had a heated exchange as Ram Lakhan, in an alleged inebriated state, slapped her wife. Sonia, a native of Purvanchal area, slapped him back in front of her sister and brother-in-law, which infuriated Ram Lakhan.

The accused left the house but returned around 9 pm and allegedly attacked his wife with a knife while she was asleep.

The victim sustained stab wounds to the face and the neck. Neighbours rushed her to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The suspect was arrested and the knife used in the crime was recovered from him.
